Waves Festival in Denmark in 2013
Every second Year Vordingborg, 100 km south of Copenhagen, becomes an international forum for experimental theatre and art. Here artists from all over the world meet and show what happens within theatre, performance, dance and visual art today.
The next Waves Festival will take place 24 - 31 August 2013. The applications for performing can be submitted on the 31th of January 2013 the latest.
Through the years the organisers tried to expose the very broad cut of modern performance art by organizing the Waves festivals in different themes: Spectacular street theatre that acts towards the modern urban space with all its technology, decentral or eccentric art presented outside the great cities’ frames of artists who act to the fact to be outsider in all of the words’ senses, theatre of the voice, site-specific, Asia, new circus, comedy, dance and visual theatre; in total performances that can be understood no matter of language, nationality etc.
The intention of the Waves festival has always been to meet the audience in its every day space: the squares of the city, parks, shops, streets etc. and in this way transform the whole town into one big stage and to give citizens and visitors experiences they did not expect in advance.
All invited artists stay in town during the whole festival week, which gives the possibility for a creative exchange amongst citizens and artists. With this kind of visibility of the stage art, Cantabile 2 hopes to increase peoples wish for theatre, as well as pointing out Vordingborg on the map as an important cultural city in a both national and international matter.
