Round Table “New Creativity & Technologies for Business Development”

The Round Table focused on technical and creative innovations – on how new technologies help creativity and cultural/ creative industries (CCIs) to create new advanced products and services, new level of public accessibility, new audiences. The focus of the Round Table was public sector and mostly non – commercial activities, education, social inclusion and integration.
There were four presentations during the Round Table, followed by a discussion with the audience:
• “Kaykino creative projects” by Olga Gracheva, Founder of the Projects, Russia (project was represented by Ms. Natalia Vavilova).
• “Joining creativity” Project by Kseniya Chumak, Deputy Head of Karelian Resource Centre of NGO’s, Russia.
• Digital technologies and museums: the experience of Severstal by Natalia Poppel, Severstal, Russia.
• Digital Applications for Public Institutions, Renars Jansons, Cube, Latvia.
The Round Table was moderated by Ms. Natalia Vavilova, member of the Commission on Culture, Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, Director of the museum of fine arts of the Republic of Karelia and Ms. Ilze Gailite Holmberg, Senior Adviser, NDPC Geography of participants covered: Russia - Saint Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Moscow and Latvia.
The conclusions of the Round Table were the following:
• Technological development reaches everywhere, including the CCI sector. The impact of technological advancement is wide and deep – it includes the new ways of creation, consumption and marketing & promotion of CCI products and services; it extends CCIs to education, accessibility to society and social inclusion, it relates to intellectual rights’ management and IT aspects, it links various sectors and creates spill- over effects.
• Technology today is becoming more creative while creative product is becoming more technological. To investigate this boarder line between two traditionally polar spheres is the greatest challenge for any cultural project. However, the technologies should be aimed for usage and benefit of people, technologies should not be regarded for their own sake.
• Development of technologies in CCI sector creates new multi-skilled working places, and generates economic value. New cross- sectorial working places develop, for example, in gaming, design, internet, as well as when generating new service and product solutions in education and learning, health care, societal integration and other sectors
• In public sector there is a real need to show new technological possibilities to museums, public administration, universities to help them work more efficiently with their audiences and to help them create up-to-date products and services. It would be important to design educative modules for such traditional institutions as museums, libraries, schools, universities, some educational modules aiming at offering technological solutions to their needs.
• Collaboration between administration and authorities – local, municipal, regional – on one hand and NGOs, local businesses on the other hand is necessary in order to create the most effective services and products for the benefit of communities. For businesses – the issue of social responsibility is of great significance socially but also is a key factor for societal prominence.
• Technologies are beneficial also for development of smaller territories, local places in terms of products, services and their accessibility and visibility.
• Technologies, among other factors, are essential element in building experience economy – products and services, but also marketing, promotion and accessibility. The technological factor is important feature in building and attracting new audiences, especially the young generation, providing new types of learning, experience, entertainment.
